Children's Privacy Notice

1. Who we built this service for

Board Game Guru is built for board-game players who are at least 13 years old. It is not a children's product, it is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.

That said, board games — Catan, Pandemic, UNO, Monopoly, Ticket to Ride, Codenames, and many others on our site — are loved by younger players. We want parents and guardians to understand exactly where we stand.

2. Our age rules

  • Under 13: Do not use the Service. Do not create an account. Ask a parent or guardian to look up rules for you.
  • 13 to the age of majority in your country: You may use the Service, but you confirm that a parent or guardian has read our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy and agrees to them on your behalf.
  • EU member states with a higher digital-age-of-consent (14, 15, or 16, depending on the country): Where local law requires parental consent to process personal data of users under that age, we will gather that consent through our signup flow once the relevant controls are deployed. Until then, users under the local digital-age-of-consent should not create an account.
  • Quebec (Law 25): The Service is not intended for users under 14. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 14 in Quebec without parental consent.

3. What we do if we learn an under-13 user signed up

If we learn that a user is under 13 (for example, because you tell us, or because their account activity makes it clear), we will:

  1. Terminate the account.
  2. Delete the personal information associated with it within 30 days, including chat history, game progress, feedback, and any analytics events linked to the account.
  3. If a parent or guardian has contacted us, confirm to them when we have completed the deletion.

4. How a parent or guardian can ask us to delete a child's data

If you are a parent or guardian and you believe your child under the relevant age threshold has given us personal information, email us at privacy@boardgameguru.org. Please include:

  • Your name and your relationship to the child.
  • The child's account email, if you know it.
  • Anything else that helps us locate the data (a game they used, a question they asked, an approximate signup date).

We will:

  • Verify the request (typically by replying to the account email and to your email).
  • Delete the data within 30 days of verification.
  • Confirm in writing when it's done.

You do not need to give us a legal reason. "Please delete this" is enough.

5. UK Age Appropriate Design Code

We aim to align with the UK Information Commissioner's Age Appropriate Design Code, including:

  • A high-privacy default for any user we have reason to believe is under 18.
  • No profiling for advertising and no behavioural advertising in any context — we do not do this for any user.
  • No "nudge techniques" that push users to lower their privacy.
  • Plain-English explanations of what we collect and why (this page is part of that).

If you are a UK parent, guardian, or young person with a concern, email privacy@boardgameguru.org.

6. COPPA — strict-liability language for US parents

Board Game Guru does not knowingly collect, use, or disclose personal information from children under 13 in violation of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), 15 U.S.C. §§ 6501–6506, or its implementing regulations at 16 C.F.R. Part 312.

If you believe we have done so, please contact us immediately so we can investigate, delete the data, and close the account.
